Sometimes life feels more difficult than usual and it can be hard to know where to turn for support.

Perhaps you have experienced a lot of change, such as redundancy, the death of a loved one or the end of a relationship. You might be feeling a little lost, but you don't know what's wrong. Or you might be feeling low and unhappy, wondering how to get the spark back in your life.

Counselling is a place where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours without being judged. It will help you understand your internal struggles and the world outside

I am a registered counsellor, based in Harrogate, and I am here to help

About Me

I haven't always been a counsellor. I spent much of my career in education; first as a teacher, then in leadership roles and headship.

My emphasis was always on creating relationships that enable people to grow, develop and thrive.

Now, as a professional Counsellor I create nurturing relationships with people who find they are stuck, unable to thrive, suffering.

I provide a safe space both physically and emotionally, where I meet clients to listen and hear their story, their experience, without judgement.

By exploring this experience together, meaning can be found and healing begin.

I work with young people (16+) and adults and a very wide range of experiences.

Carl Rogers
How I Work

In our counselling sessions I will listen carefully to you and help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This can help you begin to understand  your internal struggles and the world outside.

I am not here to judge or give advice.

But I will guide and help you through the process.

In our first conversation we will discuss your reasons for coming to counselling and the changes you would like to make. I will describe my way of working, and we can see if this suits your needs.

If, by the end of the first session, we decide we can work together we will discuss the practical aspects of our Counselling Contract (time of the sessions, cancellation, holiday etc.)

Owing to current social distancing and self-isolation I am offering phone or video counselling in place of in-person counselling.

If you would prefer sessions to help you clarify your thoughts, get a new perspective on certain aspects of your life, or perhaps help you to make a decision and you are not sure which way to go, I also offer Coaching sessions.

Coaching helps people who may be feeling stuck or frustrated to identify and overcome the barriers they feel are in the way of their desired life.

The process of Coaching involves understanding the issue and where you are at the moment, setting realistic, manageable goals, and planning ways to achieve them.

Coaching empowers you to take control of your life and take action to move forward in your desired direction.

People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
