Finding The Courage To Be
When life feels more difficult than usual, it can be hard to know where to turn for support.
You might be finding it difficult to cope, overwhelmed by emotions.
You might be feeling lost, but you don't know what's wrong.
Or you might be feeling low and unhappy, wondering how to live with loss.
Perhaps you have lost your spark and want help to rekindle your sense of joy
In therapy I can help you explore your thoughts and feelings without feeling judged. This can help you understand your internal struggles, the world outside and ultimately help you feel better.
It can help you find the courage it takes to deal with life's difficulties and to live fully and confidently.
Counselling and Therapeutic Coaching can support you through your difficult times and help you find your courage.
I am a registered Therapist, based in Harrogate, and I am here to help
"The good life involves growing, becoming more and more
of one's potentialities.
It involves the courage to be."
Some of the issues I can help you with:
Identity - discovering your personal vision of who you are
Stress and burn-out
Unsure about a major decision
Sexual orientation and coming out
Exams and assessments
School issues including Ofsted
Performance anxiety for musicians, singers, actors and presenters.
This is not an exhaustive list and we can discuss any other issue with which you would like help.
I work with adults and young people from 16 years old and am trained in safeguarding.
I hold current enhanced DBS certificates for working with children, young people and adults.

What To Expect:
Counselling involves you and I working together to understand what is causing you distress, where these issues may come from, what patterns are noticeable and how best to move forward.
Counselling can help you understand what is really going on.
In your first session we will explore your reasons for getting in touch, what changes you would like to make and how often you would like to meet.
Usually sessions are weekly but sometimes people benefit from more than one a week and occasionally people prefer fortnightly.
It is up to you and we can discuss it together.
If, by the end of the first session, we decide we can work together we will discuss the practical aspects of our Counselling Contract (time of the sessions, cancellation, holiday etc.)
In sessions I will listen carefully to you and help you explore your thoughts and feelings. This can help you begin to understand your internal struggles and how the world is affecting you.
What To Expect:
Coaching involves more goal orientated work than Counselling.
If Counselling is a deep dive into the lake of emotion and experience then Coaching is a boat sailing across the surface - it is in contact with and interacts with emotion but is more direction focused.
Therapeutic coaching can be likened to a submarine that can dive into emotion when appropriate, for example to fully understand certain barriers and how to overcome them, but is direction led and goal orientated.
When you feel stuck or like life is passing you by; that you are directionless and not sure where life is taking you, Therapeutic Coaching could be the approach you are looking for.
I will help you clarify your thoughts, get a new perspective on your life, work out why you feel stuck.
Together we will identify the barriers stopping you from fulfilling your potential.
You will begin to understand exactly where you are at the moment, what your real values are and work out the goals you want to pursue, and create plans to fulfill them.
Therapeutic Coaching empowers you to take control of your life with courage and enthusiasm, so that living whole-heartedly you will feel capable, energised and fulfilled.
“Let go of who you think you’re supposed to be;
embrace who you are.”
I haven't always been a counsellor. I have enjoyed a long and successful career in education; first as a teacher, then in leadership roles and headship.
My emphasis was always on creating relationships that enable people to grow, develop and thrive.
Now, as a professional Counsellor I create nurturing relationships with people who find they are stuck, unable to thrive, suffering.
I provide a safe space both physically and emotionally, where I meet clients to listen and hear their story, their experience, without judgement.
By exploring this experience together, meaning can be found and healing begin.
I work with young people (16+) and adults.
